Let the children “help” you wash their hands before and after snack or mealtime. Hand them each a cloth and say, “Wash off your hands.” Sing a song as they work, “Scrub-scrub-scrub our hands…”

Set up the sand and water table for some explorative play. If possible, bring the table outside so the children can experience a new environment. As the children discover new textures as they feel around in the table, identify what they are feeling and with what they are playing.

Take the children outside for a talent show. Spread a blanket or soft mat out on the grass and let the children perform their tricks – rolling over, sitting up, stretching “so big!” Don’t forget the ohhs, ahs, and applause!
While the children are developing their eye-hand coordination, they are also building their vocabulary and their independence.
As children begin to explore the different textures, they are learning that they control how their bodies move. Talking about what they are doing will build their vocabularies, oral language skills, and at the same time they are becoming more familiar with you.
The children will enjoy a different environment as they learn to control their extremities. They will begin to understand that when they do something, they get a positive response from you.
