
Encourage the shyer children to join others while playing on the playground. Begin by playing with the children, and then tell them that you are going to walk away and be right back. Upon return, tell them how proud you are that they stayed and played with friends.
Helping children come out of their shells will help them build their confidence and self-concept. Putting trust in you will also help the children build relationships with adults. They will learn to better express themselves.

Set up a grocery store in your Dramatic Play Center. Bring in a child-sized cart and a cash register. Ask parents to recycle their food boxes and washable, plastic containers. Encourage the children to write a grocery list and shop for the foods they need. Have one child check out the groceries while another bags them. Take this opportunity to encourage good manners.
This fun activity will help the children build relationships and their imaginations. They will improve their math concepts by counting and playing with money. They will improve their relationships with their peers and adults.

When a child becomes angry or frustrated and behaves in a less-than-desirable manner, model how to appropriately manage his feelings. Explain that all people experience these feelings and encourage him to use his words to express how he is feeling. Reading a book on feelings will benefit all of the students.
Helping children express their feelings in a positive way will help them handle many different situations in life. They will learn to trust you and to think before acting. Incorporating literature will help them build their early literacy skills and language development.
