At Home 30-36 months

Experiment with art materials. Provide your toddler with a variety of materials such as finger paint, collage materials, play dough, markers, crayons, chalk, and paper. Allow her to choose which materials she would like to use. Encourage her to be creative and ask her questions about what she is creating.

This activity will allow your toddler to explore art materials and express his feelings more freely. It will also help to expand his vocabulary, have more meaningful conversation, develop vocabulary, and use writing tools. This activity will also give him the opportunity to show interest in concepts such as matching and sorting and seek information through exploration.

Allow your toddler to dress herself. Give her a choice of what to wear. Once she selects a skirt and a shirt to wear, play a color matching game by asking her to pick socks or underwear the same color as her shirt or skirt.

This activity will help your child show independence, understand and respond to simple directions, and develop vocabulary. It will also help her use mathematical thinking in daily situations by allowing her to match clothing by color. Dressing herself will also improve her self-help skills and encourage her to feel confident.

Allow your child to help you to clean up and put things away. Keep her toys well organized by labeling places where toys go with simple signs or pictures, so that she knows where things are stored. She will also enjoy helping you do daily chores. For instance, ask her to put the silverware away when you are emptying the dishwasher.

This activity will help your toddler show independence, understand and respond to simple directions, and recognize that symbols have corresponding meaning. This activity will also help him have interest in matching and sorting and develop his self-help skills.
