When your baby is eating, hum or sing softly as you hold him close to you. After he finishes his feeding, snuggle with him and repeat his coos and gurgles.
Doing this will help your baby learn to calm himself, show interest in familiar adults, and listen and express himself.

When you hear your baby cry, and think that he is hungry, pick him up immediately and begin speaking to him in a soft tone. Hold him as he feeds, and enjoy this time together.
Reacting to your baby’s cries will help her begin to express herself, calm herself, and begin to show interest and to develop an attachment to you. This activity will also teach your baby to express herself and begin to understand that she can make things happen.

Make eye contact while your baby feeds. Smile and talk or sing in a quiet voice. As you speak, use sign language, such as “yummy” or “more.”
Your baby will learn to express and calm herself, build her attachment to you, and begin to build a strong foundation for her oral language development.
